⁴⁴ The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ⁴⁵ “Take the Levites as a substitute for all the firstborn of the people of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites as a substitute for their cattle. The Levites are mine. I am the Lord.”

⁴⁶ Those who were to be redeemed among the firstborn of the people of Israel, not counting the Levites, numbered two hundred seventy-three.
